Why Is This Important?

According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, in 2011 more than half of Utah's children (50.1%) had both parents working outside of the home; 49.1% of Utah mothers with children under the age of 6 worked outside of the home; 54.7% of Utah mothers with children both under the age of 6 and between the ages of 6-17 worked outside of the home; and 82.5% of Utah mothers with children only aged 6 and older worked outside of the home. This means that Utah families have a significant need for safe, healthy child care services.

How Are We Doing?

Utah has 312 licensed child care centers, and 885 in-home child care providers. The total number of child slots in centers is 27,620. The total number of child slots in in-home care is 10,400. (Oct. 2014 data)
